Do I Need a Root Canal? Common Signs and What Treatment Involves
Symptoms can point towards a pulp problem, but they cannot confirm one. Here is what treatment actually involves.

Root Canal Treatment may be required when the pulp inside a tooth becomes severely inflamed, infected, or irreversibly damaged. Possible symptoms can include persistent tooth pain, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when biting, swelling, tenderness, or changes around the affected tooth.
However, symptoms alone cannot determine whether root canal treatment is necessary. Some teeth requiring treatment have few symptoms, while similar symptoms can sometimes have other causes. A clinical examination and appropriate diagnostic testing are therefore important.
During root canal treatment, damaged or infected tissue is removed, the internal canal system is cleaned and disinfected, and the space is filled and sealed. Depending on the condition and remaining tooth structure, a Dental Crown may later be recommended to protect and restore the tooth.
