Teeth Reshaping in Dubai
Teeth reshaping, also known as enamel contouring, is a conservative cosmetic procedure in which very small amounts of enamel may be adjusted to improve minor irregularities in tooth shape or edges.

It can sometimes be used to smooth small uneven areas, refine tooth contours, or improve subtle differences in symmetry. Because enamel cannot regenerate after it is removed, treatment should remain conservative and must only be performed when sufficient healthy enamel is available.
Dr. Sawsan Awartani evaluates the tooth structure, bite, enamel thickness, proportions, and desired cosmetic change before deciding whether reshaping is appropriate. It may also be combined with treatments such as composite bonding where necessary. Her experience across Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Dubai includes cosmetic treatment planning focused on making controlled, personalized changes rather than unnecessary alteration of healthy tooth structure.
What reshaping can and cannot do
Reshaping works with what is already there. It can refine an edge, smooth a small irregularity or improve a subtle asymmetry, and the changes involved are deliberately small.
It cannot add to a tooth. Where a tooth needs to be lengthened, widened or built up, a different treatment such as composite bonding or a veneer would be required instead — sometimes alongside a small amount of reshaping elsewhere.
Why it stays conservative
Enamel does not grow back once it has been removed, so the amount adjusted has to be limited and planned. Enamel thickness, the position of the tooth and the bite are all assessed beforehand.
If the change a patient is hoping for would require removing more enamel than is appropriate, Dr. Sawsan will discuss alternative options rather than proceed.
Often combined with other treatment
- Composite bonding, where a tooth needs to be built up as well as refined
- Whitening, where shade is also a concern
- As a finishing step within a broader cosmetic plan
Teeth Reshaping — common questions
What is enamel contouring?
It is another term for teeth reshaping — a conservative procedure in which very small amounts of enamel may be adjusted to improve minor irregularities in the shape or edges of the teeth.
Is reshaping reversible?
No. Enamel does not regenerate once removed, which is why treatment must remain conservative and is only carried out where sufficient healthy enamel is available and the change is appropriate.
Can reshaping fix a chipped or short tooth?
Reshaping refines what is already present; it cannot add to a tooth. Where a tooth needs to be built up or lengthened, composite bonding or a veneer may be more appropriate, sometimes combined with a small amount of reshaping.
Will it make my teeth sensitive?
Because only very small amounts of enamel are adjusted in suitable cases, significant sensitivity is not typically expected. Enamel thickness is assessed beforehand, which is part of why the treatment is kept conservative.
How do I know if I am suitable?
Suitability depends on your enamel, the bite, the position and proportions of the teeth and the change you are hoping for. This is determined at an assessment rather than in advance.
