Why Are My Teeth Still Yellow Even If I Brush Every Day?
Brushing removes plaque and surface stains, but it cannot change the tooth's own colour — so the cause of the discoloration decides the treatment.

Having yellow-looking teeth despite brushing regularly does not necessarily mean your teeth are unhealthy or that you are not cleaning them properly.
Brushing helps remove plaque and some stains that collect on the enamel, but it cannot always change the natural colour of the tooth or discoloration that develops deeper inside it.
Enamel is naturally slightly translucent, and the dentin underneath has a warmer yellow tone. As enamel becomes thinner or more translucent with age, more of that underlying colour can become visible.
Coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco and other strongly pigmented foods or drinks can also create surface stains that gradually make teeth appear darker or more yellow.
Discoloration can also develop from inside the tooth because of factors such as previous dental trauma, certain medications, fluorosis, decay, changes within the dental pulp, or existing restorations. A single tooth that suddenly becomes darker should therefore be assessed rather than treated as a simple staining problem.
A dental examination can help determine whether the colour change is mainly on the surface or within the tooth before deciding which cosmetic treatment is appropriate.
When the teeth are suitable for bleaching, professional Teeth Whitening can lighten natural teeth and may improve both surface and some deeper stains, although the result depends on the type and cause of the discoloration.
Crowns, fillings and veneers do not whiten in the same way as natural teeth. When deeper discoloration, existing restorations, or tooth shape also affects the smile, treatments such as Dental Veneers or a broader Smile Makeover may sometimes be considered instead.
The most useful first step is to identify why the teeth look yellow rather than simply trying stronger whitening products. Dr. Sawsan can assess the type of discoloration and recommend an appropriate option based on the condition of the teeth and the result you want to achieve.
